Install “RTÉ Player” on PC: Windows 10/8/7 & Mac
If you want to run the RTÉ Player on your PC, you’ll need the Memu android emulator. Here is the process of installing both on your PC:
- Download the Memu android emulator on your computer and install it. It will take a few minutes from start to finish.
- While finishing, keep the Open when finished checked and other additional offers unchecked.
- Once installed and opened, you’ll see a familiar interface with familiar apps on the screen, including Play store.
- Click on the Play store and log into your account using your google email and password that you use on your phone.
- You can now search for the RTÉ Player app within Play store. It will show you the app on the search results in the first position.
- Click on the app name and then click install to begin the download process on your computer to install RTÉ Player.
- It may take a few minutes for the entire process. Once complete, you can now open the app from your desktop or the emulator homepage.

Recent RTÉ Player Reviews
Pretty good overall, especially considering it’s free. A few things I would like to see fixed: 1) Sometimes I have to watch 4 straight ads when starting an episode, then I skip to where I left off watching last time and have to watch 4 more ads. 2) It seems like it’s not possible to save where you left off in a series. Instead you have to remember. 3) Could be easier to find the search box.
This is terribly disapoinnting. Crashes constantly. I’m not surprised it only has 1.8 stars. Its hard to believe anyone would give it any stars. I didn’t. I got this app because I was really looking forward to the Football final between Dublin and Kerry. Since I live in upstate NY its my only option. Unfortunately your app couldnt do the job! My advice? Scrap the whole thing and, start from scratch. 😔
Decent app for catching up on shows broadcast on RTE. As noted by others, ads can often show too often because the internet connection was interrupted or the app was closed and opened in the middle of an ad. That needs improvment. Besides this, the app is good, very easy to navigate and no meed to create an account to use it.
It just gets worse and worse. It is slow, casting rarely works, the smart TV apps don’t work either. I really like RTE content, but these days I only see Netflix and channel 4 shows due to RTEs inability to deliver the content they produce. Perhaps they should consider a partnership with YouTube or Netflix. The now TV app doesn’t work either. Has anyone ever successfully used RTE player to watch a show?
The music between ad breaks is absolutely unbearable. Please change it to something not ‘generic, “young sounding” overdriven bass, plus garbage beats’, I don’t want to constantly have to mute it. How about some chill synth that has no beats? It makes the music loop less jarring/obvious. Also, where is the smart tv-live function being enabled? I pay a tv licence for a reason. Sort it.
I don’t watch rte. I tried the app today to check something on the news. It crashed twice but it managed to serve me 9 ads in the space of a few minutes but keeps crashing when I try to watch a video. Uninstalling now
awful app, rediculous amount of ads, want to resume something you were watching on TV, watch 2 mins of ads to start the program, then fast forward to part you want to watch, watch another 3 minutes of ads before you even start the program. There’s only one certainty with this app and that is you will watch ads, watching programs is hit and miss!
*edit: now won’t even open. Uninstalled and reinstalled and still not opening. Worst streaming app I’ve ever used. Given up trying to use it after attempting via many different platforms. Tonight was last straw, 2hrs waiting for 25mins of content to play yet not one add buffered. Disgrace that I actually have to pay for this ‘service’ and if I don’t I’m liable for penalty
Breaching GDPR – I redownloaded the app to check out a program, had to reset my password. The only way I could reset my password was to accept 3rd Party and targeted adds in the cookies agreement. I have the right to decline 3rd party targeted adds, why offer a choice if your only going to ram them down my phone
Perfect if you like watching the ads but it continually stops and starts and stutters once a programme comes on. It doesn’t even deserve a 1 but there’s no lower option given. Absolutely useless is the best description.
