Recent Oxford Advanced Learner’s Dict Reviews
The content is amazing. But, for a €35 app, the experience is frustrated. For example, the content doesn’t fit on screen and you need to scroll right. In addition, when you’re in a page and want to find another term you need to go back to home since the search bar there find words in the opened page. It isn’t intuitive. The app should be available for family library also like a physical dictionary that I could share with my family members. Improve the app and you’ll have my 5 stars.
I love the dictionary, but it has lately changed the layout of the descriptions of words : the text is much wider than the screen of my phone and it’s driving me crazy – I cannot make a screenshot with the entire definition (some parts of words are always cropped), it’s inconvenient to read, you have to move the text to the right and left constantly! I have checked all of the settings, googled it, tried shrinking the size of the letters – nothing helps alas. Please help
The best dictionary in my opinion and a very well designed app. So why 3 star? Well! An important and a crucial feature is missing from this app. Every time I change my phone I would loose all my favorite lists. I do not see a way to transfer list of my favorite words to an another or a new mobile 😒. I am wondering that how difficult this feature could be that it is not yet implemented in such a great dictionary app. Looking forward to the feature in an upcoming update.
A great companion on the go. With a paid version, I have access to all and even more than all I need in a dictionary. I’m able to install across my Windows and Android devices with the same one time off purchase. An improvement in presentation of usage of words in phrases, expressions and idioms would make it more useful
Although some usabilility features can be added, I still think the app is good value for money. The explanation of words and their use in a sentence are easy to follow and memorize. Only concern is that it lacks some usabilty features – not integrated with os context menu to show the quick meaning which is a basic feature in most of the free dictionary app.
It seems Oxford has fixed the bug where the pages of the dictionary wouldn’t fill the screen completely, forcing you to constantly slide your finger left and right. So, I gave it 5 stars again. The bug had been going on for more than a year. Thank you Oxford team.
Quite good dictionary. In compare with Cambridge dict this one has one cool feature – it has got pronunciation not only the base forms of all verbs but also past, participle and continuous forms. It’s good coz there are a lot of crazy words like read or said. For idiots who are screaming that this app isn’t free – read annotation before install.
It’s really nice for learn vocabulary I love it. There’re sth following: 1.But it’s hard for me to find a word via the meaning, because English is not my mother language. I don’t know if you could solve this problem for the guys like me wanna find a word by its meaning. 2.The speaking speed of the example sentences is too fast to follow for beginer. It’ll be perfect if we can adjust it ourselife. 3. I surgest to increase a function that we can check the word by copy it then popuping the meaning when we meet a stranger word in other APPs. It’s so comman in other dictionary APPs. Thank you for your hard work for English learners.
small section on left of all the sketches are hidden. something wrong with the latest version. someone please look into this. i also noticed this app is not easily searchable on the play store. this would be bad to all the learners. many other versions of oxford dicts are searched, but not this best one oald.
The search option isn’t very accurate, for example, if I enter “Wordsworth”, the entire term won’t show me the required result, but if I only type “word” or “William word”, only then will it show the result. Secondly a lot of terms like city capitals such as “Addis Ababa”, etc. or even words like “praetorium” simply aren’t there at all but the result can be obtained in Mobidict’s Oxford Dictionary of English, it would be helpful to see the database and search engine updated.
